This year the new academic year started on the 5th of September at 9:00 o’clock when freshman, faculty, staff and guests gathered in the backyard of Jelgavas palace to celebrate the beginning of the new academic year with a ceremony and an important university tradition – Matriculation Act. This tradition began in 1971 and during it the freshman are accepted in the large student family of Latvia University of Agriculture.

During the ceremony freshman, faculty, staff and guests were addressed by University rector Irina Pilvere, study prorector Kaspars Vārtukapteinis, faculty deans, mayor of Jelgava Andris Rāviņš and representatives of Students government. After the playback of the student anthem “Gaudeamus”, youngsters were officially enrolled and became fully fledged students.

After the ceremony students and faculty were invited to participate in a tradition that began in 2012 – laying a cobblestone in the Academic road. Academic path serves both as a symbol of the challenges and obstacles on the road to higher education  and as a place to meet after some years and in reunions to immerse in stories about time spent in the university.

Each year a different faculty is responsible for the Matriculation act. And this year the responsible faculty was the Forest Faculty.
