LLU Researchers Night – Science for a healthy life

On the evening of 30th September a Researchers nights events will take place in Latvia. Traditionally, Latvia University of Agriculture is also inviting people to discover the secrets of science. This year researchers will help visitors to understand how science can provide a healthy life. Various activities will take place in LLU faculties in Jelgava and also in research institutes in Dobele, Pūre and Priekuļi.

In Jelgava Researchers Night activities will take place in Jelgava Palace and six other LLU faculty building across the city from 18.00 till 22.00. Jelgava palace (Lielā iela 2) doors will be open to all visitors the whole evening. During that time it will be possible to find answers to questions about whether soil is the base for healthy food, what are smart sensors, smart house and “noise” meters, as well as how bee colonies are managed with the help of intelligent technologies. Soil researchers from Faculty of Agriculture and creators of information technology from Faculty of Information Technologies will let you look in to the mist of healthy life.

In the backyard of Jelgava palace at 18.00 LLU Sports Centers coaches will show how to get a healthy body through doing some exercises.

At 19.00 – “A sound mind in a sound body” a seminar run by researchers from Science and Humanities institute to find answers to such questions like what is health, what is dramatic medicine etc.  Visitors will have the chance to listen to scientific reports, engage in discussions and participate in quiz.

Researchers from Technical Faculty (J. Čakste bulvāris 5)  invites to look at healthy life from the technology point of view and introduce to electric bicycle, electric mobile etc. Visitors of the Researchers Night will have the opportunity to see this nature-friendly transportation in real life. In Wood Processing Department (Dobeles iela 41) researchers will look for the aspects of a healthy life in nature rather than in technology and will give answers to questions like how trees impact human health and what healthy hides in forest.

In Faculty of Environment and Civil Engineering (Akadēmijas iela 19) researchers invites you to participate in construction experiments and discover that a green building made from cannabis is possible as well as to evaluate the influence of water on the road to healthy life. All the little visitors will be able to participate in the paper boat regatta in a water flow model of river Daugava.

Researchers from the Faculty of Agriculture (Strazdu iela 1) will give you the chance to look in to the life of plants and insects. Visitors will be able to observe how the wellbeing of a plant is achieved and learn about plant diseases.

Researchers from the Faculty of  Veterinary Medicine (K. Helmaņa iela 5) will focus on the healthy life encumbrances. They will speak about human and animal disease formation and what must be done to avoid them.

By contrast, a healthy life from the human well-being point will be inspected by researchers from the Faculty of Food Technology (Rīgas iela 22). Visitors will have the opportunity to think about the aspects of a healthy diet, determine the acidity of a product, model breakfast and determine body mass index. Activities will be available from 17.30.

For the first time Researchers Night activities will take place in LLU research insitutes elsewhere in Latvia – Dobele, Pūre and Priekuļi.
