Traditional relay race "Lāpa 2017" in honour of the patriotism month

On November 8, at 18:00 at LLU Jelgava palace backyard for the 46th time will be given start signal for the relay race “Lāpa 2017” (“The Torch 2017”), which will symbolize the beginning of the patriotism honouring events at University on November. This historical tradition which was established by one member of LLU- Edvīns Feldmanis on 17 November, 1971. Now it is organized by most athletic and fastest students of LLU Sports Center. The goal for this relay race is to honour universities and Latvia’s patriotic members of society.

In the relay race participates one team from each LLU faculty. Every team consist of 2 women and 3 men. The configuration of the team is decided after students have reached out to their faculties sport curator and after deciding on the final form of team, they send an application (name of the faculty; name and surname of participants; year of study) to an e-mail mlindenbaums@inbox.lv until 7th of November, 2017.

The relay race starts and ends in the middle of Jelgava palace backyard and goes around west wing of the palace. In the race each member of the team runs one lap according to cones and tapes while holding a turned on flashlight. The sequence of runners: male- female- male- female- male. Each runner when reached certain point must hand off the flashlight to the next runner. And each team is wearing a same colour shirts.

In the last two years the winning teams were from the Faculty of Environment and civil Engineering, while in the second place were teams from Faculty of Food Technology, but the third place was won by the Forest Faculty.
