Traditional relay race "Lāpa 2018" in honour of the patriotism month

On November 7, at 18:30 at LLU Jelgava palace backyard for the 47th time will be given start signal for the relay race “Lāpa 2018” (“The Torch 2018”), which will symbolize the beginning of the patriotism honouring events at University on November. This historical tradition which was established by one member of LLU- Edvīns Feldmanis on 17 November, 1971. Now it is organized by most athletic and fastest students of LLU Sports Center. The goal for this relay race is to honour universities and Latvia’s patriotic members of society.

From each faculty there is one team that participates in relay race. Every team consist of 2 women and 3 men. The configuration of the team is decided after students have reached out to their faculties sport curator and after deciding on the final form of team, they send an application (name of the team; name and surname of participants; year of study) to an e-mail cmateikovics@gmail.com until 6th of November, 2018.

The relay race starts and ends in the middle of Jelgava palace yard and goes around west wing of the palace. In the race each member of the team runs according to cones one lap while holding a turned on flashlight. The sequence of runners: male- female- male- female- male. Each runner when reached certain point must hand off the flashlight to the next runner. And each team is wearing the same colour shirts.

Last year the winner team was from the Faculty of Environment and civil Engineering, while in the second place was team from Faculty of Food Technology, but the third place was won by the Faculty of Economics and Social Development. Let’s see who will be the winner in this years race!
