Academic study programme - Information Technologies

Besides the basic skills of computer literacy, the necessity to carry out complicated research and modeling of business processes, to solve tasks of systemic analysis, as well as to work out an unconventional use of information technologies in the production computer management, biotechnology, medicine, ecology and other fields, become of vital importance. To fulfill these tasks, well-prepared specialists, experts of computer networks, programmers, system analysts and other professionals, who are able to adjust to rapid changes in the branch of information technologies, are needed more and more.

Academic profile

Nowadays the development of all sectors of economic and scientific activities is closely related to the application of Information Technologies (IT). The programme is oriented towards the following applications of IT in the interdisciplinary trends:

  • computerized production control systems with the aim to educate you for the analysis of production systems and the development and maintaining of control systems by using the specificity of hardware;

  • systems analysis – you will have good theoretical knowledge of software engineering and practical skills to solve the problems related to the designing, maintaining and application of software systems;

  • information technologies in biosystems with the aim to prepare you to be creative and to be able to apply new solutions of information technologies for storing and analyzing biological data.

The study programme is completed with the elaboration and defense of the Master thesis.


Admission Requirements 

Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Computer Sciences, Mathematics or Physics; Diploma in Engineering (higher professional education) eligible for studies at the Master study programme in engineering or computer sciences. English requirements: IELTS score 6.0, TOEFL score 547, TOEFL-iBT score 76.


Career prospects and further studies

IT field and information systems development, functional research, systems analysis and risk assessment. Master's degree entitles graduates to continue studies in a respective doctoral programme in universities in Latvia or abroad.
