On October 12, the latest Times Higher Education World University Ranking 2023 was published, in which four universities from Latvia were named among the 1799 best universities in the world, including the Latvian University of Life Sciences and Technologies (LBTU), which entered the prestigious ranking for the fourth year in a row, improving performance in certain areas of activity .

The Times Higher Education ranking evaluates research-active universities from around the world using 13 criteria in five areas of activity: studies (study environment), science (volume, income, reputation), citability (science impact), international profile (staff, students, research) and income from the industry (knowledge transfer). The achievements of universities are measured with the help of criteria and only the best universities in the world are included in the ranking.

Compared to the previous year, this year LBTU obtained a higher result in the assessment of science, citation, international profile and income from the industry, or knowledge transfer. The university achieved the highest increase in the international profile criterion, where the result improved by 3.1 points, and in knowledge transfer, which was rated 2.1 points higher than last year. On the other hand, science indicators increased by 1.2 points and citations - by 0.6 points. A small drop of 0.3 points can be observed in the field of studies, which was affected by the overall changes in the number of students at the university.

Summarizing the results in all areas of activity, LBTU is ranked in group 1501+ overall. Similar to last year, LBTU obtained the highest score in science, entering the world's 800 best universities in this criterion and taking 737th place.

The leading three places in the latest ranking are occupied by Oxford University, Harvard University, Cambridge University and Stanford University. In total, 1799 universities from 104 countries entered the ranking, which is 199 universities more than last year.

LBTU has won the Times Higher Education World University Ranking for the fourth year in a row. For the first time, the university ranked in this ranking in 2019, which was also followed by participation in various other Times Higher Education industry rankings, which confirmed a high assessment separately in each of the directions implemented by LBTU - in biosciences, engineering sciences and social sciences.
