The Faculty of Economics and Social Development (LBTU ESAF) team was pleased to host the recent meeting of the Erasmus + project "Go Zero-Zero Waste Management in Food Sector" on the 12th and 13 of April in Jelgava, Latvia. The meeting was extremely productive, with the team and partner organizations discussing a variety of next steps for the project.

One of the main goals of the project is to improve the waste management skills of employees working in the food industry, as well as vocational high school students who will work in the food industry in the future. This will contribute to the successful implementation of zero waste management in the food sector in partner countries, and will also help to develop waste management systems in sub-areas of the food sector. The project aims to promote reuse-recycling-repair-rethinking-waste minimization options in zero waste management.

The first day of the event started with a Go Zero project overview, including presentations about the status of the project and discussions about the next steps for training content for waste management in the food sector. The team also presented a roadmap for creating educational materials and preparing a roadmap for designing the website and e-learning platform.

On the second day of the meeting, the Industrial Symbiosis Guide was discussed with a presentation of the template to collect good practices, followed by discussion and work on the next steps and cooperation of the project.

In scope of the project, the project partners intend to develop a White Paper “Recommendation Paper on Waste Management in Food Sector” and an “Industrial Symbiosis Guide”. These resources will provide valuable guidance to those working in the food industry on best practices for waste management and will help to ensure that zero waste management is successfully implemented across partner countries.

LBTU is collaborating with several food industry enterprises and is planning to involve local municipalities, vocational schools, and public sector institutions in the project activities. This collaboration will help to ensure that the project has a wide reach and will enable the team to work with a variety of stakeholders to achieve the project goals.

The event was attended by project partner organizations from Italy, Spain, Turkey, and Lithuania. The team worked together to advance the project, sharing their ideas and best practices.

Overall, the meeting was a great success and the LBTU ESAF team is excited to continue working on the project in the coming months. With the support of partner organizations and stakeholders, the team is confident that they can make a meaningful contribution to waste management in the food sector.
