Open competition for the selection of doctoral students and candidates within the framework of Project Applications Selection Second Round of Specific Objective 8.2.2 “To Strengthen Academic Staff of Higher Education Institutions in the Areas of Strategic Specialization”

„Support for the employment of doctoral students and candidates at the Latvia University of Life Sciences and Technologies (LLU)”

Project goal – to renew academic staff by employing doctoral students and doctoral degree candidates at the Latvia University of Life Sciences and Technologies in the study directions:

Architecture and civil engineering” (field of studies - “Environmental engineering”, 1 position, “Geodesy and Geoinformatics”, 1 position);

“Agriculture, forestry, fishery, veterinary medicine and food hygiene”; specialization – Veterinary medicine (field of study – “Large animal surgery”, 1 position);

“Production and processing” (field of study – “Wooden building structures”, 1 position);

“Agriculture, forestry, fishery, veterinary medicine and food hygiene”; specialization – Forestry (field of study – “Forestry”, 1 position).

 

Project results – 90% of doctoral students and doctoral degree candidates who have received ESF funding continue to work as academic staff at the LLU.

Project time period - from January 1, 2019 to December 31, 2021.

Deadline for application – March 27, 2020.

Duration of employment – at least 12 months.

Requirements and selection criteria for the beneficiaries:

  1. Doctoral students in the last years of studies at accredited doctoral study programmes, doctoral students, who are Latvian Nationals studying outside Latvia in accredited doctoral study programmes and doctoral degree candidates.
  2. Doctoral students, who have successfully obtained the number of credits required during the first two/three years of studies// doctoral candidates, who have successfully completed doctoral studies.
  3. Participation with report at least at one international scientific conference.
  4. Publication of at least one scientific article.
  5. English language proficiency at least B2 level; Latvian language proficiency.
  6. Positive reference provided by the supervisor of thesis on the doctoral student/candidate as a potential university lecturer.
  7. Interest in research and teaching of LLU courses.
  8. If necessary, (video) interviews with candidates will be organized.

The following documents are required for ESF funding:

  1. The application for ESF funding (appendix 1).
  2. Motivation letter with career plan and description of doctoral thesis project with timeline.
  3. CV – Europass or in a free form with respect to the above requirements and conditions (skills of English, list of publications, conferences and international activities).
  4. Certificate of obtained credit points.
  5. Recommendation.

Open Competition for the International Academic Staff Vacancies within the framework of Project Applications Selection Second Round of Specific Objective 8.2.2 “To Strengthen Academic Staff of Higher Education Institutions in the Areas of Strategic Specialization”

Study directions:

“Production and processing” (field of study – “Timber primary processing and economy”, 1 position);

“Agriculture, forest management, fishing, veterinary medicine and food hygiene”; Specialization - Agriculture (field of study - “Research methodology in agronomy for master level studies”, 1 position);

“Agriculture, forest management, fishing, veterinary medicine and food hygiene”; Specialization – Forest management (fields of study – “Harvesting machinery, technologies and economics”, 1 position; “Forest policy, economy and timber trade”, 1 position);

“Economics” (fields of study – “Operations and supply-chain management in agribusiness”, 1 position; “Integrated marketing communication in agribusiness”, 1 position).

 

Project goal – development of academic staff of the Latvia University of Life Sciences and Technologies (LLU) for the quality improvement of the study process by attracting foreign academic staff.

Project results – 30% of academic staff who received the support continues academic work at the LLU.

Project time period - from January 1, 2019 to December 31, 2021.

Deadline for application – March 31, 2020

Duration of employment – at least 6 months.

Requirements and criteria for the beneficiaries:

  1. A person who has been holding an academic position at an accredited foreign higher education institution in the EU during the previous five years.
  2. Doctoral degree (PhD) or comparable degree to PhD in the respective field of science.
  3. Research and academic working experience in the respective field of science.
  4. Fluent English (at least level C1, according to the Europass CV self-assessment scale).
  5. Very good digital literacy (according to the Europass CV self-assessment scale) and knowledge of new technologies in the learning process.
  6. Experience in international and/or national research projects
  7. Previous experience in developing study materials and improving study content, in preparing publications and knowledge of web-based study environments.
  8. Participation with presentations/reports in at least 3 international conferences in the last 5 years.
  9. Published monographs and scientific articles, including at least 3 indexed issues.

The following documents are required for ESF funding:

  1. The application for ESF funding (appendix 1).
  2. CV (in the Europass form; including  experience of scientific work and list of publications)
  3. Copy of the doctoral diploma.
  4. Statement of higher education of the European Union (except Latvia) regarding employment in an academic position over the last five years.
  5. Other documents according to the opinion of applicant.

Specific conditions:

  1. The Committee for the evaluation of compatibility of knowledge, experience, and competence of foreign academic staff to the chosen academic position will be set up.
  2. The analysis and evaluation for the submitted documents will be done and, if necessary, face- to face interviews will be carried out.
  3. The volume of academic workload, length of contract, remuneration, lecture time schedule is being agreed with the most appropriate applicant. Within the scope of the project Latvian language training will be ensured for foreign academic staff.
  4. The contract will be signed for at least 6 months.
