Welcome to our University! - The new academic year will be inaugurated with the Act of Matriculation on 5th of September
The new academic year will be opened on 5th of September at 9:00 a.m., when freshman year students, faculty, staff and guests will gather in the courtyard of Jelgava Castle to celebrate the beginning of the new academic year with a festive ceremony and an important tradition for everyone involved, a new beginning - the Act of Matriculation. This tradition started in 1971, and during that time new students are admitted to LLU.
Freshmen are invited to gather at Jelgava Castle at 8.30 to prepare to enter the courtyard of the university in a column of eight in a certain order - Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, Faculty of Information Technology, Faculty of Forestry, Faculty of Agriculture, Faculty of Food Technology, Faculty of Economics and Social Development, Faculty of Environmental and Construction Sciences and Technical Faculty.
During the festive ceremony, freshmen, teaching staff, employees and guests will be addressed and greeted with the start of the new academic year by LLU Rector Irina Pilvere, Vice-Rector of Studies Aigars Laizāns, Minister of Agriculture Kaspars Gerhards, Jelgava City Council Chairman Andris Rāviņš, LLU Student Self-Government President Juris Rullis, Student Corporation and Society, as well as representatives of the association "Young Farmers Club of Latvia". Along with the playing of the student anthem "Gaudeamus", the freshmen will be officially matriculated, becoming full-fledged university students.
Continuing the tradition started in 2012 - the creation of the Academic Path, a 30x30 cm cobblestone slab with the number of the year will be laid on the footpath in honor of the first-year students. The academic path serves both as a symbol of challenges faced and obstacles overcome on the way to higher education, and as a place to meet after years and rejoice on the literal memory lane.
n order for the Matriculation Act to proceed successfully, each year the faculties have some procedure, this year this event is entrusted to the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine.
