Today, there is a growing demand for top-level engineers in various sectors of the economy. These specialists must be able not only to acquire large amounts of data but also to collect and analyze it. Specialists who are familiar with the application of geoinformatics and remote sensing in agriculture, forestry, land spatial administration, and crisis management spatial organization make a significant contribution to the national economy.

Abstract

You will become a highly qualified engineer for scientific and pedagogical, as well as professional and managerial work in the field of geoinformatics and remote sensing. You will be able to navigate scientific research and be competent to solve scientific and practical issues related to the geo-informative provision of agriculture and forestry, spatial administration of land, and spatial organization of crisis management

Aim of the studies

To prepare highly qualified specialists for scientific, pedagogical, as well as professional and managerial work, who are well-versed in scientific research and are competent to solve scientific and practical problems related to geoinformatics and remote sensing in agriculture, forestry, transport logistics, land spatial administration, crisis management spatial organization

Development of Geoinformation Products and Works

Specialization: Geoinformation Provision of Agriculture and Forestry

Cropping Systems, Animal Production Systems, Harmful Organisms of Crops and their Monitoring

Risk Management in Forestry, Principles of Forests Science and Management

Specialization: Spatial Land Administration

Learning Outcomes

  • Knows a systematic approach and critical understanding in the analysis of problem situations and possible solutions in the chosen specialization
  • Can work independently in the interdisciplinary field of geoinformatics, use theory and industry-appropriate methodology in research activities, and reasonably explain and discuss aspects and current affairs of the scientific field.
  • Knows how to effectively organize work in independent and collective activities, creating communication and cooperation with Latvian and international partners.
  • Able to navigate well in the specifics of geoinformatics and remote sensing, is competent to lead and independently conduct scientific research, organize the practical use of research results, as well as engage in pedagogical work.

Examination Procedure

In every subject course, student performance is measured according to the 10-point assessment scale. During the studies, master students demonstrate their knowledge and skills by completing individual tasks and group works such as essays, discussions, short reports, reviews, data collection and analysis, and presentations. Each subject course ends with an examination or a formal test with a grade. Integrated knowledge, skills and competence is tested during the Master’s thesis.


Admission Requirements

Applicants with completed academic or professional bachelor's degree in agricultural sciences, forestry, transport logistics, land planning and surveying, geodesy, landscape architecture, environmental science, or other natural and engineering sciences, the duration of which is at least three years (180 ECTS) in full-time studies.

The requirement of the English language knowledge if your native language is not English: IELTS score 6.0, TOEFL score 547, TOEFL-iBT score 76.
