Oriental University Delegation Visits LBTU

On March 20th, a significant step towards international collaboration was taken as a delegation from Oriental University in Tashkent, Uzbekistan, paid a visit to our institution, the Latvia University of Life Sciences and Technologies (LBTU). The delegation, led by Mr. Murodjon Akhmedov, the Rector of Oriental University, expressed keen interest in fostering academic partnerships, particularly in the realms of Economics and IT. The visit aimed to explore the possibility of initiating dual diploma programs between the two esteemed universities.

The delegation from Oriental University comprised notable figures such as Mr. Farrukh Kuvondikov, Vice-Rector; Mr. Farrukh Khudayberdiev, Head of the International Department; and Mr. Abbos Sattorov, a respected faculty member. On the LBTU side, key representatives included Irina Pilvere, the Rector; Mārtiņš Šabovics, Head of the International Department; Viktorija Krištopane, Chief Specialist in International Dual Diploma Programs organization; and Dina Popluga, Director of the Institute of Economics and Finance and the Doctoral Study Program Director for "Agrarian and Regional Economy."

The primary agenda of the meeting was to discuss the potential implementation of dual diploma programs in Economics and subsequently in IT fields. The day commenced with presentations from both universities, highlighting their academic strengths, research initiatives, and global outreach efforts. Following this, fruitful discussions ensued regarding the practicalities of establishing dual diploma programs, student and staff exchanges.

A significant milestone of the visit was the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) and a dual diploma agreement between the rectors of both universities. These agreements solidify the commitment of Oriental University and LBTU towards fostering academic collaboration and promoting cross-cultural exchanges.

The initiation of dual diploma programs holds immense promise for both institutions. It not only enriches the academic experiences of students but also strengthens the global competitiveness of the universities. By offering students the opportunity to earn degrees from two reputable institutions, these programs enhance their employability and equip them with a diverse skill set tailored to the demands of the global workforce.
